Lead & asbestos testing

Test it before you disturb it.

Older homes hide two invisible hazards: lead paint and asbestos. Both are harmless until they’re disturbed — then a remodel, repair, or demo can release them into the air. We provide accurate, affordable, quick-turnaround testing for homeowners, buyers, sellers, realtors, and contractors across all of Oregon.

Why it matters

Invisible until it’s in the air.

Asbestos fibers cause serious lung disease when inhaled, and lead dust is toxic when ingested or breathed — especially for children. Neither is a risk sitting undisturbed behind a wall or under a floor. The danger comes the moment a renovation, repair, or demolition breaks the material open. Testing first tells you what you’re dealing with before a project puts it in the air.

The two hazards

Know what’s in an older home.

Asbestos

Disturbing suspect materials can dislodge asbestos fibers and release them into the air. Before you disturb anything you suspect, it’s worth testing a sample first. Common asbestos-containing materials include:

Acoustic ceiling sprayFloor tilesLinoleumInsulationDrywall & joint compoundExterior stuccoRoofing

Lead-based paint

Lead is a toxic metal that can cause serious health problems if it’s ingested or if dust containing lead is inhaled. Until 1978, when federal rules restricted it, lead was a common component of both interior and exterior house paint.

If your home was built before 1978, the only way to know whether lead paint is present is to have it tested.

How it works

Sample, lab, answer.

1
Take a sample

We collect a sample of the suspect material safely — before anyone disturbs it and releases fibers or dust into the air.

2
Accredited-lab analysis

The sample goes to an accredited lab for precise analysis — a real answer, not a guess from a hardware-store kit.

3
A clear written result

You get a clear report telling you what’s present, so you and your contractor can plan the safe next step.

Straight answers

Lead & asbestos questions, answered.

When should I test?+
Before you disturb any suspect material — a remodel, repair, or demolition is exactly when asbestos fibers and lead dust get released. Testing first tells you what’s there so the work can be done safely.
Which materials commonly contain asbestos?+
Acoustic ceiling spray, floor tiles, linoleum, insulation, drywall and joint compound, exterior stucco, and roofing are among the most common. If you’re unsure, it’s worth testing a small sample before disturbing it.
How do I know if my home has lead paint?+
If your home was built before 1978, it may have lead-based paint on interior or exterior surfaces. The only way to know for sure is to have it tested.
How fast are results?+
We’re known for quick turnaround — samples go to an accredited lab and we get your written result back to you promptly. Reach out for current timing on your job.
